“Old” Standards, “New” Standards, and Item Analysis – Grades 3-8

Sherri Helterbrand, School Improvement Consultant for the Region 14 State Support Team, has compiled information from Ohio’s 2002 Academic Content Standards, ODE’s 2010 “Crosswalk” information regarding new Academic Content Standards, and Greene County ESC’s benchmark tally.  The result is a table that shows “old” standards and benchmarks, “new” standards and benchmarks, and frequency of appearance on recent state assessments.

This has been done for grades 3-8, in English/Language Arts, Math, and Science.  Items marked “(ODE)” are documents that have been prepared by ODE providing similar information.  They summarize the relationship between the 2002 Ohio Academic Content Standards in English Language Arts and the 2010 Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.  They do not include the “item analysis” piece.  The ODE documents are provided in Microsoft Word (.doc) format.  The full list (K-12) is available on ODE’s “Comparison of the K-12 Ohio Academic Content Standards and the Common Core Standards” page.

The resulting charts (PDF format) are available separately for each grade/subject:

Information for School Administrators – Traumatic Brain Injury

School Administrators need to be aware of the needs of all the students in their district, regardless of disabled or not.  The small population of students who have sustained Traumatic Brain Injury is very easily a forgotten set of the student body.  The following article from Principal Leadership (December 2007) is an excellent guide for school administrators to learn more about TBI and its implications for the student.  Please click the link below to open the article.
